January 13, 2015 – SEDS-USA is hosting its first #SpaceTalk of the year on January 22 from 6-7 p.m. MST. The Google Hangout On Air series will feature Senior System Engineer Daniel Baca from Lockheed Martin. Baca will be speaking about his experiences as one of the primary engineers for the Orion Mission.
Baca was part of the design, integration, and launch teams for Orion’s Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1) and was also on console as part of the Launch Team at the Kennedy Space Center during EFT-1 on December 5. He is currently the Fault Protection lead for the European Service Module (ESM) for Orion’s next flight, Exploration Mission-1 (EM-1) slated for 2018.
#SpaceTalks is an interactive discussion. The first 30 minutes in the hangout are reserved for a presentation from the speaker, but the remaining 30 minutes is a Q&A session with the audience. Baca will be able to answer any questions you have about Orion or his mission experience.
Baca holds multiple degrees, including Bachelors’ degrees in Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, and a Master’s degree in Aerospace engineering with an emphasis in Bioastronautics. He has worked in various areas of space exploration, both academically and professionally, for the past 11 years, and helped co-found SEDS at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He has received many awards from both NASA and Lockheed Martin and was awarded Most Promising Engineer of 2013 by Great Minds in STEM.
