Aurora, Colorado. June 12, 2014 – An exhibit inspired by images from the Hubble Space Telescope is coming to Fulginiti Pavilion for Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
The idea for Sandra Kaplan’s exhibit “Galactic Stories” came in the form of an email from her daughter, an electrical engineer. Kaplan says she was intrigued by images from the Hubble.
“Galactic Stories is where history, science, philosophy and art collide,” said Kaplan.
Once her daughter sent the email, Kaplan began combing through as many astronomy books as she could find, collecting historical astronomical images and scientific charts and maps.
“These paintings and their use of mixed media are not an attempt to illustrate scientific ideas and theories, but to use those ideas and theories as a springboard from which to launch my paintings and collages,” said Kaplan.
“Galactic Stories” will be on display at CU’s Anschutz Medical Campus from June 26, 2014 through August 28, 2014 in the art gallery at the Fulginiti Pavilion. An opening reception that includes a conversation with Kaplan and the Fulginiti’s curator, Simon Zalkind, is July 10, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
