Falcon 9 Awaits Afternoon Liftoff

April 8 2016 – The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket stands ready for liftoff at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 40 in this photo taken earlier today. The rocket will launch a Dragon resupply spacecraft to the International Space Station. Liftoff is scheduled for 2:43 p.m. MDT; live countdown coverage begins at 1:30 p.m.

The Dragon will carry scientific research and hardware to the International Space Station, as well as supplies for the orbiting laboratory’s Expedition 47 and 48 crews.

The SpaceX CRS-8 mission is the company’s eighth flight under NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services Contract.
