August 3, 2015 – Barber-Nichols Inc. (BNI), a global leader in the design and manufacture of specialty turbomachinery located in Arvada Colorado, is wrapping up a major facility expansion to increase and streamline production capacity.
In 2015, $1.4 Million has been invested in new machine tools, shop layout improvements, and new building construction totaling 2,000 additional square feet in floor space. The major machine tool additions include a Mazak five-axis mill, a Mitsubishi wire Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM), and an Okuma Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) which increases the company’s turning capabilities to 50-inch diameter parts weighing 2,000 pounds.
The expansion was primarily driven by several new multi-year contracts awarded to BNI for work in support of the United States Navy and by continued growth in the private space launch industry.
BNI has already hired three additional employees to fill new positions and will continue filling manufacturing, engineering, production control, purchasing, accounting, and project management positions into 2016.
