March 16, 2016 – Gen. John E. Hyten, Air Force Space Command commander, talked with students March 11, 2016 at the Peterson Air Force Base STARBASE academy. STARBASE selects fifth grade students from local public schools and focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical (STEM) education.

The program brings students to the Academy to learn using a curriculum specially designed to immerse them in hands-on experiences and teaching. Through the five sessions, held once per week, the aim is to get STEM education to stick with students long after they depart from the Academy. There is no charge to schools participating in the program.

In addition to Gen. John Hyten, students in this year’s STARBASE program will meet with an astronaut and take field trips to places the Peterson Air & Space Museum.
