September 9, 2015 – The Colorado Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) will be hosting a panel event in Fort Collins on Monday, September 14, to discuss the Small Business Innovative Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs. Attendees will learn more about the overall process and important areas to be aware of when participating in this government version of research funding.
The panel will include Art Maples, the NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate’s (STMD) Director of Strategic Partnerships in the Colorado region. His responsibilities include:
Expanding partnerships with academic, industrial, intergovernmental, and entrepreneurial communities with mutual interests in development of breakthrough capabilities that support NASA’s aerospace goals and national priorities.
Improving and enhancing coordination between NASA and the Colorado aerospace and technology community in order to leverage funding, capabilities, and expertise within and outside NASA to address technology barriers and advance technology.
Promoting the availability of NASA technologies for use by the U.S. public and private sectors, and accelerating the technology-to-market cycle.
Prior to this position Art served as NASA’s Assistant Associate Administrator, where he assisted NASA’s Associate Administrator in overseeing the planning, directing, organization, and control of the agency’s day-to-day technical and programmatic operations. Art has also served as a Congressional Fellow for US Senator Bill Nelson, Chairman of the Science and Space Subcommittee, and in positions at Goddard Space Flight Center, and Kennedy Space Center.

Stephanie Amend is the CEO of Arrowhead Solutions, LLC; a full service solutions provider for government contractors established in 2009. After holding contract management positions in both government and private industry, Stephanie founded Arrowhead with the goal of providing companies with the extra knowledge and manpower they need to succeed in the world of government contracting. Specializing in business development, proposal preparation, contract management, subcontracts, accounting and compliance, Arrowhead provides as needed, expert support to government contractors. Arrowhead is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. Ms. Amend is the President Elect for the Denver Chapter of the National Contract Management Association Board of Directors and possesses a B.S.A and an MBA. In her free time, she competes in ultra-marathons and endurance mountain bike races.
Rodman Tompkins is a Director of Licensing & Business Development for CSU Ventures. He is responsible for technology marketing, patent prosecution and license negotiation of CSU-created intellectual property and also supports startup formation, university research activities and corporate relations. His portfolio primarily consists of innovations in infectious disease, neuroscience and reproductive biology. Rod received BS degrees in Cell and Molecular Biology and Neuroscience from Tulane University and MS degrees in Anatomy and Microbiology from Colorado State University.
Lisa Herickhoff, Ph.D.
Lisa Herickhoff is a Ph.D. molecular biologist with an MBA who enjoys the application of science in a commercial setting. Her company, Membrane Protective Technologies, Inc. focuses on improving animal reproductive success for the benefit of farmers. As a company, they’ve received SBIR awards from NSF and USDA. In her free time, she spends time with her horses, cats, dogs and donkey.
Durward E. Timmons
Durward Timmons represents construction contractors, developers, he also represents corporations on all matters related to federal procurement, including bid protests, contract administration (including Prompt Payment, Buy American, Truth in Negotiation Act), claims and disputes before Boards of Contract Appeals, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, Federal District Court (including Contract Disputes Act claims, Suspension and Debarment, Qui Tam Actions, Security Clearances). D advises corporations concerning corporate codes of conduct and compliance programs, along with Arms Export Control Act and International Trade in Arms Regulation. He also provides training to corporations regarding all aspects of Federal procurement.
