Golden, Colorado. June 13, 2014 – Colorado School of Mines will host the yearly analysis meeting of the Pierre Auger Observatory collaboration June 16-20.
The Pierre Auger Cosmic Ray Observatory, situated in the Mendoza province Argentina, is studying ultra-high energy cosmic rays, the highest energy particles observed on Earth. Demystifying the origin and the nature of these cosmic rays is the aim of the observatory, the largest cosmic ray detector in the world.
The yearly analysis meeting of the Pierre Auger Observatory collaboration is the only collaboration meeting to occur outside Argentina. The 2014 gathering is the first to be held at Mines and the first in the U.S. in many years. Attendance is expected to include approximately 120 collaboration members from around the world. Discussion will mainly be focused on the many observatory data analyses.
The collaboration members will also discuss the plan for an observatory upgrade to continue operation until beyond 2020.
