January 9, 2015 – Boulder astronomer Phil Plait will be premiering an online video series called “Crash Course Astronomy” next Thursday, January 15. The weekly series will cover basic topics in astronomy like motions in the sky, naked-eye observing, the planets, eclipses, stars, galaxies, and the Universe.

The series, produced under the auspices of Hank and John Green’s Crash Course educational videos and sponsored by PBS Digital Studios, will be free to watch and available via YouTube. More than 40 episodes have been planned.

In a recent blog post, Plait said, “They’re fun and informative, and my hope is that they’ll get you excited about astronomy … and maybe you’ll learn a thing or two as well. I know I sure did while I was writing them.”

Phil Plait writes Slate’s Bad Astronomy blog and is an astronomer, public speaker, science evangelizer, and author of Death From the Skies.
