Astrophysicist To Keynote World Space Week Activities At FRCC


September 30, 2016 – Astrophysicist Erin Macdonald will speak about Space Travel Tales and Truths as the keynote speaker for World Space Week activities at Front Range Community College.

Macdonald, a systems engineer with Stellar Solutions Inc. and global education manager for World Space Week, will give this free presentation at 7 p.m. Friday, October 7, in room 107 of Challenger Point on the Larimer Campus, Harmony Road and Shields Street in Fort Collins. Macdonald is an expert in gravitational waves and general relativity. She likes to share the intersection of space with science fiction. Her talk will focus on space experiences unknown to most and the truths about space travel that are more intriguing that common myths.

Stargazing in the Sunlight Peak Observatory follows the presentation at 8 p.m.

These activities are sponsored by Pretty Brainy and FRCC. Pretty Brainy is a Fort Collins-based organization that empowers girls in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) fields.

The first World Space Week was declared in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly. More than 700 events around the world have been registered for Space Week 2016.
